Week 3: I'm Still Standing Strong

Well, I am truly still feeling so blessed by my makeover from Jibri and T Oliver Hair Studios. I have really been feeling myself, and starting to shop again! If you look good, you feel good, and everyone around you benefits! Now let me know if you benefit from the happiness I feel in this picture!

Getting Back to Me

Hello family.  I have been away for a while because I wasn't feeling like myself.  A year after having my baby, I just lost interest in most things.  All I wanted to do was lay in the bed and watch Netflix.  I didn't care about my appearance anymore, nor did I even have the motivation to get out the house.  For me, as long as my baby was cute and she was happy, that's all I cared about.  I didn't realize it at first, but I was battling against some post pardam depression.

It was a harsh thing to realize because I seem to always have it together.  However, it happens.  I am in the process of getting me back to me.  One of the things that I did to get back to myself was to participate in the Jibri and T Oliver "Project Be-You-tiful" which gave me the kick start I needed. 

This project gives plus size women complete makeovers. They took measurements, did bra fittings, hair, make-up, and clothing.  Its a whole day of beauty, and its all about YOU!  Take a look at my transformation:

This will be a series of weekly posts.  I shared a little bit of my story on Facebook, and the responses were overwhelming of women that have gone through or currently going through the same things.  The Be-You-itful Project has inspired me to tell me story and share what I can to help others.  So please leave me your comments.  I would love to hear your stories too.

A Little Birdie Told Me . . . .Fashion to Figure Expands in the Atlanta Market!!!!

Fashion to Figure is a women's apparel retailer that offers Trendy fashions at an affordable price.  Fashion to Figure is headed by CEO and C-Founder Michael Kaplan is the grandson of  Lena Bryant, Founder of Lane Bryant. 

They opened their first store in Douglasville earlier this year, but will be  opening 2 new stores in The Mall at Stone Crest and Cobb Center at Cobb!  A few of my Blogger Boo's will be hosting the events.  Make sure you check out the new store Grand Openings and these Bloggers!!

Wednesday's event (Oct. 15) will be hosted by the beautiful Parker from Everyday Runway and Tami from Talking with Tami

Thursday's event will be hosted by the newest Georgia Peach The Curvy Fashionista.

CurvieBirdie Watch: Jenniefer Hudson

It was announced today that Jennifer Hudson will be the cover girl of Yahoo Style online magazine!  That is tremendous and I am so glad for her. She has been a non-stop go-getter since we first meet her on American Idol.  She is beautiful, and always have been even with those extra curves!  She has been on the cover of many magazines, and it's great that she is going to to be representing on Yahoo Style!

If you notice, it wasn't until she lost the weigt that she started being accepted and put on the cover of magazines geared towards the main stream.  Regardless, she works very hard and deserves it!

I cannot believe I missed the offical launch of Kelly Osbourne's new collection:  Stories...by Kelly Osbourne.  I blogged about the line coming out, and just got caught slipping.  But it's here now, and she has some really trendy with a bit of edge pieces.  She launched on HSN last week, and I have made my picks!

It was a drabby weekend in Atlanta, but I still managed to get cute and out of the house.  When I first heard the 6th and Lane collection was coming to Lane Bryant, I was excited due to the quality and sophistication of the line.  So of course, I had to get me a few pieces!

Weekend Style

This weekend was a very trying weekend.  If you didn't notice, I was not on any social media.  Well that is because I dropped my phone and broke it.  So no Internet, no social media, and no pics.  Sad, Sad, Sad days!!!  But I should be up and running by this evening.

Anyway, I did manage to get a few pics in with my actual camera.  One of my favorite curvie stores in ATL is closing, so I had to go there and support by making so purchases before they closed their doors.  Tweleve24 has been an amazing partner to the curvie fashion community, and this is one of the pieces I purchased from them:

OOTD: Fanatics Baseball Game Day Look!!!

It is coming to the end of the season for baseball, so it's time to get your game face on.  I go to a few games per year on my company, and its always a struggle trying to find something to wear that's cute, jazzy, and comfortable! 

Well, thanks to my friends at Fanatics, I found the perfect baseball hat to work my game day ensemble!  If ya'll don't know, I am from Chicago and am in love with the 2005 World Series Champions CHICAGO WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!!  I picked one of their many awesome hats and based my look around that.  Every CurvieBirdie would look fabulous is these pics!

The White Sox colors are white and black, but Fanatics has so many baseball hats in different colors with your favorite team logos.  Cant't go wrong!!  I paired a distress pair of jeans with a crop tee, a jean vest with Chuck Taylors.  Add some trendy accessories and Run DMC bracelet, then you can and that extra swag!

Mamanista Fridays: Booties !!

Well since fall is right around the corner, the ladies of The BabyShopaholic and Mamanista Files have decided to start the season's challenge with Booties!  Booties are a very essential part of a CurvieBirdie's wardrobe.  They can be dressed up/down, worn in winter/spring, or just about with anything (In my Dr. Seuss voice).

Some thing to Chirp About: KeKe Palmer and Sherri Shepard

Broadway's Cinderella is getting a new look.  CurvieBirdies Sherri Shepard and KeKe Palmer will be staring in the new version of the play!  

KeKe will be playing Broadway's first African American Cinderella!  This young lady is doing it real big these days.  She also has her own talk show where she uses social media to reach the masses with topics that concern the youths of America.  She is an awesome role model, and inspiration to her whole generation!

Now our lovely CurvieBirdie Sherri Shepard has had a rough year.  She went through a nastly divorce, and her husband tricked her into getting a surrgate for a baby so he could divorce her and get child support payments!  Then she left the view where she has worked for over 7 years.  However, there is something new in her life to be exicted about.  She will be playing the wicked stepmother in Cinderella.  Now I don't see her as a wicked stepmother type, but I'm sure she will kill it!

What do you think about Broadway finally having an African American Cinderella?  If the play came to your town, would you go see these two ladies in it?

Mamanista Fridays: Lace Detail

I am going to say this was the hardest challenge for me.  I could only find 1 shirt that was lace, but it was a bit short and I am not going to let ya'll see all my extra like that!!  So I have some other amazing CurvieBirdies that decided to step up to the challenge!

Something to Chirp About: Spanx Jeans!!!

Ya'll know I am an avid Spanx spokesperson. So the other day, I heard that Spanx were going to be coming out with jeans!  I had to thank God and do a little Cogic shout at that news honey!  Where have there jeans been all my life?  Its like Sara Blakey knows what all CurvieBirdies need.  I'm going to call her the CurvieBirdie Whisper-er!!!!

There will be two styles, multiple cuts and three washes and are priced at $148. They promise “thigh-trimming construction” and stretch technology meant to smooth the tummy. 

I am so excited!!  The jeans launch on the Spanx website last week and will be available in department stores Aug. 25!!!

Last weeks Mamanista Friday look was Vests.  I was already to go, but forgot my camera for pics.  I got it at lunch, but I was not blog fine anymore due to having eaten lunch first.  My mistake!!  However, we do have this fly lady ready to go with her vest challenge!

 

Miss Erica has made another feature.  I was telling her about the Mamanista Friday challenge, and she wanted to participate.  Another fashion mamanista!! 

Erica is rocking a vest and shiny top, and ya'll know I love shiny things!! Erica purchased these items from Ross.  Gotta love Ross!!!

Forever 21 Says Chrissy Teigen is Too Fat!!

I could not believe the news I just read.  Chrissy Teigen, was is the beautiful model married to John Legend, used to be a model for Forever 21.  During one of her shoots there, Chrissy was in the make-up chair getting ready for here shoot.  She got a phone call from her agency telling her that Forever 21 called and said that she was too fat, and that she needed to come back to the office to get her measurements retaken.  Unbelievable!!  She was in the make-up chair!  So rude and disrespectful!

 

 

 

Now since this event accrued, Forever 21 has launched their plus line.  No apology was ever given, but they have realized the need and demand for fuller-figure clothing.  I have very missed feelings about this.

OOTD: Cas-U-AL Cal

I hope everyone enjoyed that beautiful extended 4th weekend.  Mom Dukes and granny came down, so I had to dress casual to be able to keep up with these ladies!  So my OOTD is all cotton, and I added the jean jacket just to keep arms warm while out in the cold stores shopping.

Ms. Erica has done it again.  This CurvieBirdie is so fly!!!  She is our CurvieBirdie of the week again!  She came in and showed out in her navy jump suit looking like a Greek Goddess.  Please say hello again to this fly girl:

I think this jumpsuit looks really regal.  And, its made with cotton, so it is super comfy.  She purchased it from Ashley Stewards, but it is no longer available.  Sad face!
