And the Oscar Goes to . . .

Last night was Oscar Night, and the fabulous fashions did not disappoint.  Here are the CurvieBirdies showing their gorgeous gowns of the evening.

Melissa McCarthy's Oscar Look: Love It Or Hate It?

Melissa McCarthy’s dress is one of my favorites.  It is so beautiful and elegant.  It was a custom blush colored Marina Rinaldi gown with a jeweled neckline detail.

Viola Davis Flaunts Cleavage, Goes Wigless at Oscars

Viola Davis won all of our hearts in “The Help” where she played a nanny/housekeeper when Jim Crow Laws where still in effect.   Viola wore a custom Vera Wang emerald green corseted faille gown with floral crystal applique and draped chiffon pleated skirt. Not only is this woman extremely talented, but I love the fact she wore her own natural hair to the Oscars.

Michelle Williams look stunning as always in this Louis Vuitton gown.  This is my favorite dress of the evening.  It is simply elegant.  Who knew you could move from Dawson’s Creek to the Oscar red carpet!!

Octavia Spencer Sparkles in White at the Academy Awards

Octavia Spencer is gorgeous in this  Tadashi Shoji dress.   I can’t even think of words to describe how beautiful the dress is and she was .  Congrads on your first Oscar!!!!

In celebration of Black History Month, I want to take a moment and share Little Know Black History facts with my fellow CurvieBirdies.

So here are a few Little Known Black History Facts:

Carter G. Woodson organized the first Negro History Week Celebration on the second
week of February in 1926. The week celebration eventually became a month long
celebration which is now known as Black History Month

Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, an African American from Sainte-Domingue (Haiti),
built the first permanent settlement in what would become Chicago in 1779.

February was chosen as Black History Month because two important birthdays occur in February—that of Abraham Lincoln, the author of the Emancipation Proclamation, and that of Frederick Douglass, an early African American abolitionist

Sir William Arthur Lewis, a professor of economics at Princeton University, was the
first African American to receive a Nobel Peace Prize. He received the award in 1979
which represents the highest level of accomplishment for an economist.

M.C. Harney, an African American inventor, invented the lantern lamp, which replaced the use of candles as the primary source of lighting when daylight was unavailable. His device was patented on August 19, 1884.

Joseph N. Jackson invented a programmable remote control for television.

Vermont was the first U.S. territory, in 1777, to abolish slavery. Pennsylvania was the
first state to do so, in 1780.

Ernest Green becomes the first Black person to graduate from Central High School in
Little Rock, Arkansas, in May of 1958.

Spelman College in Atlanta is NOT the only historically black college for women, Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina is the other one.

Xavier University, a historically black college in Louisiana, has one of the highest
success rates in the country getting their graduates into medical school.

Alexander Lucius Twilight was the first African American to receive a college degree. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College in 1823

W.E.B. Du Bois became the first African American to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard. He is perhaps best known for his work in founding the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People in 1909 and helping it to become the country's single
most influential organization for African Americans.

Sophia Tucker and Harriet Giles, the founders of Spelman College, used just $100 to
found this Historically Black College.

Weekend Fly By Buys

Hello CurvieBirdies!!  The weekend is here which means we can do what we do best.  SHOP!!!!!  So here is my weekend Fly by buys pick . . .

Because you know that “Without Old navy, I’d be Naked!!!”

Denim Sale

OMG!!!  Ya’ll know I ‘m excited right?  I loves me some Old Navy!!  Old Navy is like the other man in my life.  I don’t get to spend as much time with him as I’d like, but when we do get together, it’s explosions and fireworks honey!!!

Anyway, the plus sized jeans are on sale online only.  However, for you CurvieBirdies that can wear a size 20 and under, you can your size in different styles in the store.  Personally, I can wear a size 20, but only in a select few styles.  If you have my body type, try the Sweetheart and Dreamer styles.  These style have a more traditional fit and are not low waist!!!!  Low waist does not work for me, so I stick to higher waist jeans.  Don’t need all my lovely lady lumps showing up and showing out  in low waist jeans!!!

There are 6 different styles to choose from online, so get to Shopping Ladies!!  I will buy online this time and do a review on the styles I choose.

Do you like Old Navy jeans?  Which styles fit your body type?
